What issues did you have before introducing the laser machine?

Our company is engaged in the manufacturing of metal products for industrial applications. On the same premises, we operate both sheet-metal fabrication and metalworking plants, giving us a strong advantage in integrated production. Since our founding in 1963, we have been involved in creating products used across various industries for more than half a century.

However, due to the impact of COVID-19, our workload decreased drastically, and the future looked uncertain. In response, we decided to establish a new business pillar by launching a “Design Cut Division.”

With the skills we had cultivated in industrial product manufacturing, we wanted to create original products for the general consumer market. In 2020, we launched our own brand, PINECOCO, and began developing and producing new products.

With over 50 years of experience, we specialize in seamless can-making and metal processing solutions.

Our own brand “PINECOCO,” launched in 2020.

After launching our own brand, we began by using our existing metalworking laser engraving machine to produce and sell small design items and custom-made products. Soon after, our original fire pit, developed in-house, attracted attention for its “stylish design and playful spirit.”

This led us to try crowdfunding, receive media coverage on television, and even have our product registered as a return gift for Tachikawa City’s hometown tax program. These opportunities helped introduce our brand to a much wider audience.

Why introduce the GCC LaserPro laser machine?

While we had been developing products using a metalworking laser engraving machine, we began to see new possibilities in pursuing more design-oriented products made from materials such as acrylic and wood. This led us to consider introducing a CO₂ laser engraving machine.

After carefully comparing machines from various manufacturers, we chose to adopt a GCC LaserPro laser engraver from COMNET, as we valued their extensive track record of installations and the strong support system they provide.

What results follow laser machine installation?

After introducing the Spirit GLS, we developed Yurarin, a soothing artificial flower stand made of MDF. Following the success of our fire pit, we once again achieved our crowdfunding goal, and the product received high praise as our first in-house creation using non-metal materials.

Although sales from our brand are still relatively small compared to the company’s overall revenue, we have been able to branch out into completely new fields of work. For example, we have created original goods by licensing local characters such as Tachikawa City’s mascot and professional sports team mascots, as well as producing novelties for robotics competitions and medals for school sports events.

By continually prototyping and sharing new ideas, we’ve found that more customers now approach us casually with requests like, “Can you make something like this?” This has opened up a wide range of possibilities, and we are very excited about the potential for further growth in the future.

What are your prospects for the laser business?

We’ve learned from experience that when we quickly turn ideas into prototypes and share them, it sparks interest in custom-made products.

Looking ahead, we plan to make full use of our laser engraving machines to continuously create new products that combine metals such as iron, stainless steel, brass, and copper with materials like leather and wood. Through these efforts, we hope to reach even more people and allow them to experience our products firsthand.
